The regions peak tourism body, tourism tropical north queensland CEO Pip close, shares with connect cairns the five key focus points to lift our regions appeal.
Reinvigorating the brand
Master our destination’s story by recognising the Great Barrier Reef is the number one attraction for international visitors. People arrive in Cairns and easily access the reef, the rainforest, two Australian Indigenous cultures, a variety of food and accommodation styles.
Elevate rainforest and Indigenous experiences
Develop the stories of the world’s oldest rainforest and Australia’s two Indigenous cultures to give visitors more reasons to visit the destination.
Pursue high-value travellers
Increase revenue coming into the region by targeting travellers who spend more and value our natural assets. The goal is $3.5 billion expenditure by 2020.
International aviation attraction
Work with Cairns Airport and our partners to attract sustainable international routes to Cairns. New routes will ease the constraints on the domestic market with around 75% of domestic seats being used by international visitors.
Continue to work with Tourism and Events Queensland, Cairns Regional Council and the regions to attract new events with a focus on low and shoulder seasons.
