Nominations for the Cairns Business Excellence Awards (BEX), our region’s most prestigious and celebrated annual business awards event, are now open.
Organised by the Cairns Chamber of Commerce, the awards are open to both Cairns Chamber of Commerce members and non-members. Submissions will close at 5pm on Monday, March 11.
“The awards showcase business excellence and acknowledge outstanding business practices and contributions to our community in the Cairns region,” says Cairns Chamber of Commerce Business Development Manager Alex Martins. “Winning an award and being acknowledged as the best in your category is a huge achievement.”
Award categories include the Legacy Award, People Management Excellence, Customer Service Excellence, Marketing and Communications Excellence, Emerging Leadership Excellence, Indigenous Business Excellence, Community Contribution Excellence, Sustainability/Environmental Excellence, Business Technology Excellence and Project Management Excellence.
To attain recognition, businesses are judged across a set of criteria that underscore commitment to not only sustaining bottom-line results, but to superiority of service, commitment to customers, ethical behaviour and environmental sustainability.
“Our 12 judges vary across different industries and fields,” Alex says. “The panel of judges is split up into three groups, so we match the right person with each award. They have the knowledge of a particular award category, so nominees are judged by knowledgeable people in their particular field.”
“Winning an award is quite a badge of honour,” says Founder and CEO of Top End Consulting Edward Karras, who won the 2018 People Management Excellence Award. “It was a nice confirmation that my main founding principle of always treating every person with dignity and respect is in play. I’m very humbled, and I 100 per cent recommend others enter the awards.”
Rhiannon Johnson from Wolf & Geek Creative House, which won last year’s Marketing and Communications Excellence Award, agrees.
“We would encourage more people to nominate businesses and leaders who are doing great things in the community,” she says. “Recognition like this means a lot to a small business teams and help them understand that they are delivering a great service or product.”
The third annual BEX Awards will be held at the Pacific International Hotel on Saturday, June 15. For more information visit www.cairnschamber.com.au/chamber-events/BEX or contact Judit Fernandez on 4031 1838.
